Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.
As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.
Townsville Grammar School is seeking an Accounting teacher who can make the subject click — not just teach the syllabus, but help students understand how money, decisions, and business actually work in the real world.
This is a role for an educator who sees Accounting as more than numbers on a page, and who can connect classroom learning to life beyond school.
About the role
You will teach Accounting in Years 11 and 12, working with students to build practical financial skills, analytical thinking, and confidence in decision-making. Our students respond well to teachers who can explain the “why” behind the content and make learning relevant.
Candidates with additional expertise in Business or legal studies are encouraged to apply.
You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive faculty focused on strong academic outcomes and continuous improvement.
What makes this role different
- A subject where real-world application is front and centre
- Students who value practical, relevant learning
- A faculty that shares ideas and supports each other
- Scope to bring your own examples, case studies and teaching style
- A school that values clarity, consistency, and strong teaching practice
A relevant teaching qualification, QCT Registration, and previous teaching experience is highly desirable, however, we will consider near graduates who can teach under a Permission to Teach arrangement. Additionally, our ideal candidates will:
- Have a high level of competence and passion for Accounting and Business subjects.
- Use real-world examples to deepen student understanding.
- Be able to develop, plan and deliver effective, high-quality learning experiences to our students, with a collaborative approach to teaching and learning.
- Have the ability to adapt teaching methods to cater to a variety of learning styles and student needs.
- Be capable of inspiring students through a passion for the subject, and a genuine belief in the potential of all students.
- Have demonstrated competence in classroom management.
- Be committed to the aims and ethos of independent Schools and be willing to participate in the co-curricular and pastoral life of the School.
