Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.

 

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.

Townsville Grammar School is seeking an experienced and capable Teacher in Charge of Design & Technology to lead teaching and learning within our Secondary School. We are interested in hearing from applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Furnishing Skills,  Design, and Applied Technology.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled educator with strong subject knowledge, practical expertise, and the ability to lead with clarity, professionalism, and a focus on student learning.

 

About the role

 

The Teacher in Charge will be responsible for the delivery and development of Design & Technology programs, with a particular focus on one or more specialist areas within the subject. The role includes teaching responsibilities as well as leadership of curriculum, resources, and the day-to-day coordination of the subject area.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Lead and coordinate the Design & Technology subject area
  • Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons across relevant year levels
  • Teach in one or more specialist areas, including Furnishing Skills, Design and/or Applied Technology 
  • Develop and review curriculum, assessment and teaching resources
  • Maintain high standards of safety, compliance and organisation within workshop environments
  • Support students to develop practical skills, design thinking, creativity and independence
  • Monitor student progress and provide clear, timely feedback
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to faculty planning and improvement
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, families and staff
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school

 

About you

 

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

 

  • Relevant teaching qualifications and QCT registration
  • Experience teaching Design & Technology, with strength in one or more relevant specialist areas
  • Strong practical knowledge of workshop processes, materials, equipment and safe work practices
  • The ability to lead a subject area effectively and support consistent teaching practice
  • Well-developed organisational and communication skills
  • A commitment to high standards, positive relationships and student development
  • The capacity to contribute positively to a collaborative school culture
