Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.

 

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar Schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive ADF Mentor to support the wellbeing, engagement and continuity of learning for students from Australian Defence Force (ADF) families. This position works across both the Annandale and North Shore Junior School campuses.  This is a part-time position (3 days per week) and is offered as a temporary contract for terms 3 and 4, 2026.

 

This unique role combines student mentoring and classroom support, recognising the opportunities and challenges experienced by Defence‑connected students, including mobility, transition and parental deployment. Working closely with teaching and wellbeing staff, the ADF Mentor plays a key role in fostering connection, resilience and inclusion within the Junior School.

 

About the Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Junior School and Head of Campuses, the ADF Mentor will:

 

  • Provide pastoral care and mentoring support to ADF‑connected students
  • Assist teachers with in‑class, small‑group or individual learning support where required
  • Support students transitioning into the school or managing family separation
  • Plan and deliver targeted wellbeing and engagement activities
  • Build strong relationships with ADF families and act as a key point of contact
  • Support commemorative events such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day
  • Work collaboratively to ensure a consistent, whole‑school approach to supporting ADF students

 

About You

 

You will bring:

  • Experience working with primary‑aged children, ideally in a school or educational support role
  • A demonstrated ability to support student wellbeing and learning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the experiences of ADF families
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive activities
  • High levels of professionalism, organisation and confidentiality

 

Requirements

 

  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card – QLD)
  • Willingness to work across both Annandale and North Shore campuses
  • Availability to support occasional school events aligned with the role
