Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.
 
Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.
 
As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

Townsville Grammar School is seeking a highly organised and proactive Human Resources & Compliance Officer to provide administrative support across the employee lifecycle and ensure compliance with school, legal, and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the HR Manager, you will be instrumental in managing recruitment, on-boarding and off-boarding, and compliance processes that keep the School running smoothly. 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support recruitment processes, including drafting and posting advertisements, monitoring applications, coordinating interviews, and liaising with candidates.
  • Manage on-boarding and off-boarding processes, including letters of offer, induction packs, Blue Card administration, employee records, and probation management.
  • Maintain HR databases, staff directories, and records of qualifications, leave, and contracts.
  • Oversee compliance programs, including Blue Card compliance, Child Protection, CRICOS, workplace training, and statutory reporting.
  • Assist in interpreting and applying employment law, industrial instruments, and international student compliance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR and compliance processes, including automation and workflow efficiency.
  • Provide general administrative support for HR and compliance matters as required by the HR Manager and other school leaders. Provide administration and calendar support to the Director of Advancement.

 What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in HR administration and/or advising, preferably in an education environment.
  • Understanding of employment law, compliance frameworks, and industrial instruments.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of an organisation.
  • Understanding of legislation relating to international students is desirable.
  • Qualification in Human Resources, Business, or Legal studies, or progress towards completion, is highly desirable.
  • Working with Children Blue Card – essential.
